"The Multi -colored Lake in Kenya "
Magado Crater is located on the northeast tip of the Nyambeni range. The circular crater rises 73 meters (250 ft.) above the surrounding area. It has an average diameter of 800 meters and an average crater depth below the rim of 140 meters. Debris blasted out during the crater eruption formed a rim 80 to 100 meters thick.
Lake Magado which is located at the bottom of the crater is the only multi-colored lake in Kenya. The Lake is made up of orange, red, purple, and green puddles which are separated by salt molds.
It has different hues (colors) due to the alkaline nature of the water and this makes the area have an acrid smell. The source of the unique color combinations is thought to be openings in the earth’s crusts which are known as fumaroles. The color changes because of chemical reactions resulting from the minerals contained in the lake - perhaps triggered by volcano gas activity.
According to scientists, it is however more accurate to refer to the colors as being driven by oxidation-reduction chemical dynamics.
In recent years, the Meru as well as the Borana and Somali people have shared the crater. During the rainy season, the tribes people water their cattle in this natural collecting basin. During the dry season as the full lake recedes, the soda that remains behind is collected.

✅Every car is expected to have its recovery gear (good quality tow rope, D-shackles, wheel jack, LOCK NUT SOCKET) and spare (power steering and engine fan) belts applicable to it. You will be towed using your tow rope and D-shackles. ✅ Do not forget to carry your tow hook (for modern cars without permanent tow hooks). ✅You can buy recovery gear from: https://safarioutfitterske.com/; https://www.mustek.co.ke/; and at Ngara (that is, Nyayo Market, behind Equity Bank - Ngara Branch). ✅Carry portable drinking water jerry can. ✅Carry an icebox or electric cooler or a fridge.
✅Service your AC in good time especially if you intend to travel with kids. ✅Ensure your tire threads still have sizeable tread life left on them. ✅Check also on the condition of your spare tire and replace it if it is too worn out. It's not unimaginable for a spare tire to be punctured or torn also. Newer tires are much less likely to get punctured or torn. The road has many corrugations, gravel, and small stones plus the extra weight of passengers, and provisions that can lead to tires being placed under great stress and more likelihood of punctures. ✅ You don't need to carry spare fuel.
