ONLY 4x4 vehicles with functional 4WD systems. ✅ Allowed: Land Cruisers, Patrols, Pajeros, Land Rovers, Hilux, Rangers, etc. ❌ NOT allowed: AWD cars, 2WD sedans, small SUVs, highway-only vehicles AWD vehicles (e.g., Subaru, RAV4) are NOT suitable for this trip. The terrain is too extreme. Don't risk it—you'll get stuck and endanger the convoy.
Honestly? Probably not. Desert Run II is YEAR 2. We're raising the bar. This trip is for experienced off-roaders who know their vehicles and have driven challenging terrain before. If you've never aired down tires, used a snatch strap, or driven in deep sand—this isn't the place to learn. Start with easier trips (ask us for recommendations). That said: If you're confident, your vehicle is capable, and you're willing to learn fast (and follow instructions), apply. We'll assess case-by-case.
NO kids. The terrain is rough, the days are long, and the conditions are harsh. Not suitable for kids because: - No showers for 2 nights - Wild camping (digging toilet holes) - Long, bumpy drives - Extreme heat during the day, cold at night Elderly passengers: If they're fit, adventurous, and okay with discomfort—welcome!
This is off-roading. Breakdowns happen. WE PROVIDE: - Sweeper vehicles (stay at the back, help with recoveries) - Basic tools and spare parts (shared among convoy) YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR: - Your own vehicle repairs (bring spare parts, know your rig) - Major breakdowns may require towing to nearest town (Marsabit/Isiolo) - If your vehicle is completely disabled, we'll help coordinate transport back to Nairobi (at your cost) CONVOY RULE: We don't leave anyone behind. But we also can't wait forever. If repairs will take hours, we may need to continue and arrange for you to catch up or return home safely.
NO HOTELS. This is camping—real camping. NIGHT 1 (Chalbi Desert): WILD CAMPING. Endless salt flats. Zero light pollution. Stars like you've never seen. Also: No facilities, no water. NIGHT 2 (Chalbi Desert): WILD CAMPING. No facilities. No water. No toilets. Dig your own. Bring 40L+ water for cooking, drinking, cleaning. NIGHT 3 (Camp Ndotto): Basic facilities (toilets, showers, water). Still camping in tents. If you need a hotel bed, this trip isn't for you.
NO. This is self-catering. Bring your own food for 4 days. Why? Because: 1. We're a self-sufficient convoy 2. Everyone has different dietary needs/ preferences 3. Cooking your own meals around the campfire is half the experience TIPS: - Pre-cooked meals that reheat easily - Non-perishables (canned goods) - Fresh produce (lasts 2-3 days in a cooler) - Plenty of water (you'll drink more than you think in the heat) CAMPFIRE CULTURE: We often share meals. Bring extra to share if you're feeling generous!
Plan for 170-250 liters total (for most 4x4s). YOUR TANK + 2 x 20L JERRY CANS: - Fill up in Nairobi (full tank) - Top up in Marsabit (critical fuel stop—last reliable station) - Fill jerry cans in Marsabit (you MUST have 40L extra minimum) You will fuel again in Isiolo or Nanyuki (on the way back). FUEL CONSUMPTION VARIES: - Heavy vehicles (200 Series, Patrol): 250L+ - Lighter vehicles (Hilux, Ranger): 170-230L - Off-road driving uses 30-50% more fuel than highway
EXTREME. Pack for both. DAYTIME (Chalbi/Falam): 35-42°C (HOT HOT HOT) - Blazing sun, zero shade (unless you bring your own) - Dust storms possible - Hydrate constantly or you'll suffer NIGHTTIME (Desert): 10-15°C (COLD) - Temperature drops fast after sunset - You'll need hoodie, sweatpants, thick blanket - Campfire helps, but bring warm layers TIMAU/ISIOLO (Higher Altitude): Mild, cool mornings (15-20°C)
See our Cancellation Policy below (TERMS & CONDITIONS section). SUMMARY: - 30+ days before: Full refund - 15-30 days before: 50% refund - Less than 14 days: No refund EXCEPTION: Medical emergencies with doctor's note = 50% refund (any time)

NO. This is a convoy—we move together. DEPARTURE: 0430 sharp, Supreme Court, Nairobi. Late = left behind. RETURN: We arrive back in Nairobi together on Day 4. If you need to leave early for an emergency, that's your choice—but no refund.
