Description

The Southern Safari Circuit trip offers some of the finest country landscape, scenic and wildlife viewing.

The trip showcases four of East Africa’s most thrilling sightings: the little-known but thrilling Nyiri Desert; the Mighty Tuskers of Amboseli National Park, spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, and beautiful vistas of Chyulu Hills and deepest, beautiful blue Lake Chala.

Highlights:

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park is located at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. It is well known for its large elephant herds. On a clear day, you will be able to have a beautiful view of Mt. Kilimanjaro which is the tallest mountain in Africa. The fact that it is a plain land that makes siting of various wildlife and bird species easier. You will be able to see huge herds of Elephants, Masai Giraffes, Spotted Hyenas, lions' Cheetahs and over 400 species of birds.

Chyulu Hills National Park

Chyulu Hills National Park is a striking landscape of emerald, green hills, open vistas, dense forests, and pools of water with reflections of white clouds in azure blue skies. Remote and wild, the park and surrounding conservancies are largely untouched by humans with the exception of the Maasai warriors who protect and depend upon the land. Described by Ernest Hemingway as "The Green Hills of Africa," this Kenyan treasure is not known as a big game destination, but rather, it is one of the few places where you will find almost no signs of tourism, lending to the surreal sense of isolation amidst surrounding resident faunas. Endless open plains are cut by the rugged deep black lava flows that tell the story of this enchanted land, while the rocky outcrops give you breath-taking vistas of the diverse habitats, all with Africa's most iconic mountain in the background – Mount Kilimanjaro.

Lake Chala

The amazing blue coloured Lake Chala straddles the Kenya – Tanzania border in Taita Taveta County. The lake (being an actual crater) is deep and is surrounded by a steep crater rim with thick bushes and huge wild fig frees. It was apparently “owned” by Ewart Grogan (he of Grogan Road), the guy who walked from SA in 2 years to win his father-in-law favour & marry her daughter. It is home to Lake Chala tilapia (Oreochromis hunteri), which is found nowhere else in the world!
