Expeditions with Mara Nomads take you to remote and challenging yet breathtakingly scenic destinations. Being well-prepared is essential, as lack of preparation can be costly. To ensure a successful journey, we have compiled a checklist of must-have essentials for your expedition vehicle and first-aid kit. 

Expedition Vehicle Must-Have Essentials Checklist:

  • Air compressor (double cylinder)
  • Toolbox or toolbag with essential tools (spanner set, screwdrivers-flat & star, duct tape, tester)
  • Extra fuses (various amp ratings suitable for your vehicle)
  • Extra nuts for bolts (different sizes)
  • Towing rope rated to match/exceed the weight of your vehicle (avoid chain or wire cable)
  • D-shackles or bow shackles
  • Engine oil – 4 or 5 liters
  • ATF/transmission oil – 3 to 5 liters
  • Spare air filter
  • Spare oil filter
  • Spare diesel fuel filter
  • 250ml Brake fluid (unopened)
  • Extra coolant
  • WD-40
  • Araldite glue to stop radiator or exhaust leaks
  • Super glue
  • 250ml power steering fluid
  • Spare engine & alternator belts

  • Puncture repair kit
  • Spare battery terminals - 1 or 2 pairs

First-Aid Kit Essentials Checklist:

  • Well-equipped first aid kit
  • Antiseptic wound cleaner (e.g., Dettol)
  • Assorted adhesive bandages & Gauze pads (various sizes)
  • Elastoplast
  • Ibuprofen or other strong pain-relief medication
  • Tweezers + Safety pins
  • First-aid manual
  • Prescription medications (e.g., antibiotics)
  • Sore throat lozenges (like Fisherman's Friend or Medi Keel lozenges)
  • Flagyl, Imodium or other diarrhea medication
  • Gaviscon or Actal or other antacid tablets
  • Glucose (to treat hypoglycemia)
  • Aspirin (primarily for response to a heart attack)
  • Safety razor blade (or scalpel)
  • Surgical gloves
  • Glasses and contact lenses
  • Diabetes testing supplies + insulin (for diabetics)
  • Inhalers (for asthmatics)
  • Other meds – cough drops like Cetirizine or expectorant + decongestant
  • Waterproof container to hold meds
